AI-2003 Workshop

In support of the study, a half-day workshop is being held on 15 December 2003 as part of AI-2003, the 23rd Annual International Conference of the British Computer Society's Specialist Group on Artificial Intelligence, at Peterhouse College, Cambridge, UK.

The workshop will take the form of a number of short paper presentations highlighting critical issues in this domain, followed by a structured discussion which would aim to identify and document the most significant issues in the development of successful AI-based system.

The workshop will address practical, mainly non-technical, issues relating to the development of AI-based systems, including, but not limited to:

  • Differences between AI-based systems and "conventional" systems
  • Choice of Technology
  • Transition from research to production
  • Marketing
  • Project management
  • Gaining funding
  • Criteria for success/failure
  • V&V
  • Issues relating to safety-, security- and mission-critical systems
  • Reasons for failure (Design and Definition, Decision Making, Project Discipline, Supplier Management, People)

Papers on any of the topics above will be welcomed, and all accepted papers will be distributed to workshop participants and published on this site. Selected papers will be presented at the workshop.  The deadline for papers wil be 31 October 2003.
