I work as a Software Engineer and ‘thinker’ involved in researching future solutions for educational technology. I completed my PhD, documented in this website in 2008, and am now studying Online and Distance Education with my old friend, the Open University.

I completed a Certificate in Social Science, Diploma in Computing and a BSc (Hons) in Computing and Psychology with the Open University between 2002-2005. I joined the Educational Technology research group in Birmingham in 2005 with the aim of pursuing PhD research that straddles the human-computer divide. In particular I am interested in fields of research that combine AI with intrinsically user-centred technology.

Outside work, I’ve been involved in GirlguidingUK as a leader for 10 years, including leading a trip to Iceland, and completing my Queen’s Guide and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards. I’m a keen (if frustrated) rockclimber and hill-walker, and love doing anything that gets me into the mountains of any country. Closer to home, my interests include building stained glass windows, reading good modern fiction and playing the cello, violin and piano. You can also visit mywonderland... although I have to admit it is woefully in need of an update.
