AI-2008

AI-2008 will be the 28th annual conference on AI organised by the BCS Specialist Group on AI (SGAI). The organisers are keen to get input from practical developers and engineers, and in addition to fully refereed papers, are seeking case studies and presentations from industry, to illustrate practical successes and challenges in the world of AI.

TeachBot

TeachBot is an initiative being developed in conjunction with Elzware Ltd. TeachBot applies the lessons of the practical development of conversational agents (or Chatbots) to the world of education. The first application aims to support the teaching of GCSE English to 14-16 years olds, and is being run in conjunction with Bristol City Learning Centres.

Alice Kerly

Alice Kerly is completing a Doctoral Thesis in Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) with particular focus on the use of conversational agents in e-learning. She is active in the UK artificial intelligence and international AIED communities, and is particularly interested in the broadening of educational technology research from academia to real-world and commercial platforms.

FAIRS’08

Forum for AI Research Students (FAIRS’08) will be held on Monday 8th December in Cambridge, UK, and offers:

• Guidance on conducting research and writing the thesis
• Feedback on research and research plans
• Advice on undergoing a viva
• The chance to meet other research students and develop networks
• An opportunity to discuss work with senior researchers and practitioners.
